MENA Scholarships
In response to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, we are strengthening our MENA program by expanding scholarship opportunities for girls from Gaza. This initiative complements our existing scholarships for Afghan and Syrian girls, addressing the critical need for educational support in regions grappling with formidable challenges.
The targeted regions face extraordinary difficulties, leaving these women with limited opportunities to pursue further education. We are dedicated to investing in the future leaders of these countries, individuals who aspire to return home once conditions allow. Our objective is to furnish them with the necessary tools and facilitate connections to full-time employment upon graduation.
Our scholars benefit from an exceptionally generous package. A $30,000 donation to Elevate will cover the expenses for a girl to complete a two-year IB program at a UWC institution, and a four-year university degree for each girl who successfully graduates from the IB. This comprehensive package, valued at over $400,000 USD, reflects our commitment to empowering these young women and fostering positive change in their lives and communities.
The scholarships for girls from Gaza will be named the Manuel Fernandez Scholarships in honor of his dedication to education and empowerment.
Manuel Fernández Scholarship For Girls From Gaza
Manuel Fernandez was an outstanding teacher of Economics and mentor at UWC’s Adriatic College, from 1983 to 2003.
Manuel inspired so many students in Duino with his passion for education and his dedication to social services. He is therefore remembered fondly by several generations of College students, many of whom visited him in his home in Staranzano whenever they returned to Duino.
Manuel played such a significant role in the life of our community in the first two decades of the College’s history and words fail to convey the enduring impact of his legacy on the students whom he taught and mentored. May Manuel rest in peace.
